1 MILLION PASSENGERS LESS IN THE FIRST 10 MONTHS OF 2022 COMPARED TO THE SAME PERIOD IN 2019

Traffic at the capital’s airport is slowly recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic which strongly hit the entire aviation sector. Sofia Airport’s data shows that even in October it failed to reach its 2019 levels.

Statistics show that for the tenth month of the year, 569,426 passengers passed through the capital’s airport. This is 4.35% less than those who travelled in the same period of 2019. By more than 6% less compared to October 2019 were those who travelled on international scheduled flights, or 512 268, and those who flew to our sea airports – Varna and Burgas were 17 632, a drop of nearly 14%. The best performance was seen in charter passengers, which in October 2022 were up almost 37% compared to pre-Covid-19 and totalled 31,773.

Aircraft take-offs and landings in the tenth month of the year are 4,945, which is 6.5% less compared to the pre-pandemic 2019 total of 5,290.

Mail and cargo shipments handled in October 2022 are 1,742 tons in total, down more than 22 percent.
