Charter flights up last month
13% less flights to seaside cities in July compared to the same month in 2019, reports SOF Connect, the operator of Sofia Airport. A total of 31,125 passengers flew to Varna and Burgas in the seventh month of the year, which is more than 4,600 fewer travellers compared to before the pandemic.
In July, Sofia Airport served a total of 662,440 passengers, slightly below 2019 levels, according to the airport’s data. Those using international scheduled services totalled 608,722, or 0.5 % less than pre-Covid-19 figures. Charter travellers grew during the month, with a total of 1,757, or a 32% increase on 2019 figures.
Air travel also continued to decline. A total of 5,660 takeoffs and landings were handled last month, down 2% from the same period three years ago. Cargo and mail shipments in July were also far from pre-pandemic levels with a 23% drop here or a total of 1,658 tonnes handled.
