The modernization of the sited located at Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport is curently on. Two major investment projects are also underway – the refurbishment of the airport car park and preparations for the purchase of a new baggage management system.
This became clear during a meeting held by BIA President Dobri Mitrev with the CEO of SOF Connect (the new operator of Sofia Airport) Jesus Caballero. The meeting was also attended by Stanislav Popdonchev – Deputy Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of BIA, and Rosen Bachvarov – Director of Institutional Relations and Communications of SOF Connect.
Dobri Mitrev presented BIA’s partnership opportunities, noting that for 42 years the Chamber has been an economic dissident whose main goal is to protect Bulgarian employers. “We strive to be the best possible advocate for Bulgarian business and to have professional, not political relations with all institutions,” said the BIA President.
JesΓΊs Caballero presented the new team that will manage Sofia Airport and the investment plan of SOF Connect. “Our ambition is not just to modernize the airport, but to bring added value to the capital and to Bulgaria. Part of this is the development of the flight network to and from Sofia, for which we are in daily negotiations with the airlines, the local and central government and the entire tourism sector,” Mr. Caballero stressed, adding that Sofia Airport’s airport charges are among the lowest in Europe and, although this generates losses for the concessionaire, they will be maintained in 2022 to support the airlines’ recovery and attract new partners.
BIA and SOF Connect leaders agreed to join forces on business analyses, including an assessment of cargo transport potential and aviation repair and maintenance activities, as well as on issues related to human resources management, qualification and training, and process management and optimization.
