Important information for travelers to Varna and Burgas!
If you are planning a domestic flight from Sofia Airport, it is advisable to be at the airport 2 hours before your departure. From now on, flights will be served from gates located in the inner part of Terminal 2.
This means that you will have the opportunity to take advantage of the shops, restaurants and business lounge located in Terminal 2 before your journey.

SOF C entering the second year of the implementation of the co-funded by the EU project ESAGO “Electrification of Sofia Airport Ground Operations”

SOF Connect and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) signed a Grant Agreement on the 29th July 2024 with a retroactive starting date.

The project will add its contribution to SOF C engagements in reducing the Sofia Airport greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 28% by 2026 and achieving carbon neutral by 2035.

The anticipated results upon the execution of the ESAGO are reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions (estimated at 86.5 tons annually) and noise pollution including ameliorating the working environment of the ground handling operators, that will be achieved with the deployment of:

  • 2 Transformer stations for increasing the capacity of the existing electrical grid.
  • 2 mobile Ground Power Units, with 2 outputs
  • 4 mobile Ground Power Units, with 1 output
  • 1 Heater for Aircraft cabin
  • 22 charging stations for Ground Handling Equipment with software for monitoring
  • Electrical infrastructure for the charging stations (including new cable lines, new electrical boards, transformer for electrical supply for 7 of the chargers)
