Vasil Levski Sofia Airport welcomes its passengers with the exhibition “The Voice of Cyprus: Wisdom and Emotions Preserved in Proverbs” – a cultural display showcasing the richness of Cypriot folk heritage and the timeless wisdom preserved in the island’s traditional proverbs.
On the occasion of the exhibition’s opening, SOF Connect Chief Executive Officer Jesus Caballero and His Excellency Charalambos Kafkarides, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Bulgaria, visited the exhibition and explored its content and messages. The event highlights the importance of cultural exchange and the airport’s role as a place that connects people, ideas, and traditions from around the world.
The exhibition was created by Anna Kancheva and Rumyana Kovacheva with the participation of Panagiota Papadopoulou, librarian at the Elpinikios Library in Nicosia. It is organised on the occasion of the Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus of the Council of the European Union and presents a carefully selected collection of Cypriot proverbs that reveal the values, beliefs, and life lessons passed down through generations.
At the heart of the exhibition is the iconic work “The Proverbs of the Cypriot People” by renowned folklorist Pavlos Xioutas. The publication brings together more than 5,500 proverbs and sayings, serving as a valuable archive of collective memory. In the exhibition, a selection of these proverbs is accompanied by delicate watercolour illustrations that enrich stories about human relationships, work, family, love, and hope.
Through the combination of words and visual art, visitors have the opportunity to discover Cyprus’s cultural heritage and experience how the messages of folk wisdom transcend language and nationality.
The exhibition is located in the public areas of Terminal 2 at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport and will remain open to visitors for one month.
