The photo exhibition “Sofia – so much to discover” can be seen from today at the capital’s airport. 18 picturesque photographs of Sofia greet arrivals at the airport. The photo exhibition is organized by the Municipal Enterprise “Tourism” at Sofia Municipality, with the support of Sofia Airport.
“Sofia is the gateway to Bulgaria and we are happy to welcome passengers with the beauty of the biggest city in the country. Sofia is not only beautiful, but also ancient, modern and green. A city that deserves to be shown and seen”, with these words Jesus Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect, operator of Sofia Airport, opened the photo exhibition.
“Sofia is a modern European city. Sofia is a city rich in cultural and historical heritage. Sofia is a “green” city, a city with many parks and gardens, close to the Vitosha mountain. Sofia is a multicultural and tolerant city. Sofia is a very beautiful city that deserves to be seen. With this exhibition, which we have managed to realize, and I hope that this will not be the only joint initiative of Sofia Municipality, ΠΠ “Tourism” and Sofia Airport, everyone who visits the city for the first time, everyone who sets foot at Sofia Airport Terminal 2, will have the wonderful opportunity to enjoy all the photos and, of course, to visit Sofia once again,” said Irina Savina-Bangeeva, Deputy Mayor of the European Policies, International Affairs and Tourism Department.
Sofia’s picturesque landscapes are the work of renowned Sofia photographer Ivan Shishiev. His works are the first impression that passengers entering Bulgaria have. 12 panels measuring 203×98 cm accompany the passengers at the entrance of Sofia Airport, from them shine the beauties of the Golden Bridges, the National Library “Sv. St. Cyril and Methodius, Crystal Garden, etc.
The most imposing among the panels are three 5-meter photographs located before the border control at Terminal 2. The photographs are of the Alexander Nevsky Monument, the Ivan Vazov National Theatre and the National Art Gallery.
Most notable is the 18-metre high composition above the escalators that greet passengers landing at our airport. It is a photograph of tulips in the park next to the National Assembly, overlooking Alexander Nevsky.
“Our capital is such a picturesque and beautiful city that it would take lots and lots of photos to show it, but it is important for us to show that passengers are arriving in a beautiful place. And Sofia is not just a metropolitan city, but a city where there is so much to discover,” said Ludmil Pelov, Director of the ΠΠ Tourism at Sofia Municipality.
The exhibition will delight arrivals at Sofia Airport for a year.
