GROWTH OF CHARTER FLIGHTS AT SOFIA AIRPORT

Traffic still below pre-COVID-19 levels

International charter flights grow in the fourth month of 2022. Statistics from the capital’s airport show that 194 chartered aircraft took off and landed during the period, while 26 241 passengers were carried.

However, if we look at the total passenger traffic, will notice that the number of passengers in April is still below the levels of the same month of the pre-pandemic year 2019, or by more than 91 thousand less.

There was an 18% decrease in passenger traffic on international scheduled services compared to April 2019. 457,524 passengers were carried last month, 101 thousand less than pre-COVID-19.

There was also a drop of 27% in domestic flight passengers. In April this year, they were 15,346 or over 5 thousand less compared to the same period in 2019.

Almost 7% less compared to pre-pandemic 2019 were also air travel. In the fourth month of 2022, aircraft take-offs and landings totalled 4,652.

An increase of more than 6% was recorded in cargo and mail shipments handled – 2,014 tonnes compared to 2019 levels.
