The Latvian airline Air Baltic Corporation AS (airBaltic) will start direct flights from Sofia Airport to Riga in May 2024. The flights to the Latvian capital will be operated three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from May 2 to October 26.
airBaltic is a nearly 98% state-owned, hybrid airline that combines the best of traditional carriers and low-cost airlines. The airline offers low-cost tickets in its network at competitive prices, as well as tickets not only for direct flights, but also for transfer flights.

airBaltic flies to over 70 destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. In addition to the connections to these places, the airline boasts the youngest fleet in Europe, which consists of one of the most environmentally friendly commercial aircraft in the world – the Airbus A220-300. As sustainability is among airBaltic’s core values, the carrier managed to reduce its carbon emissions by 33% compared to 2008 by modernizing the fleet and optimizing landing procedures. In addition, airBaltic is committed to reducing its environmental impact to the minimum possible value and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 in line with the commitments of the aviation industry and the EU.
Riga is the largest city in the Baltics, also known for modern places of entertainment and rich medieval history, architecture, part of the UNESCO World Heritage. This is the first destination that Sofia Airport is adding for next year. During 2023, the list increased by seven, the same number of destinations became accessible from the capital airport and in previous year.
