The second edition of the “School for Aviation” initiative, which took place today, met the students of the First English Language School with Captain Mario Bakalov. He talked about the path he took to fulfil his childhood dream of becoming a pilot. He shared the challenges he faced when landing in Sofia the biggest plane in the world, piloted by a Bulgarian. He presented the basics of aerodynamics and a number of interesting events from his pilot practice. The young people were captivated by his stories and asked him many questions related to the profession.
The students also learnt about the different activities and professions that are performed at an airport in order for the number of take-offs to equal the number of landings. The high school students also visited the Air Transport Institute where they were shown how cabin crew are trained to respond to an emergency. At the end of the interactive lesson, all received certificates for successful completion of the March edition of the Aviation School.
The capital airport has revived its initiative in which primary and secondary school students participate in the airport’s education programme. The Aviation School was launched in 2017, but the pandemic forced a pause for almost 2 years.
