More than 30 000 Bulgarian citizens have visited winter resorts in France for the past winter season of 2023/2024, according to the National Statistical Institute and the French-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“The direct Sofia-Lyon flights are a great opportunity to connect the capital of Bulgaria with one of the most important cities in France, famous for its cultural richness as well as its proximity to the French Alps. This route facilitates access to world-famous ski resorts and satisfies the growing interest in winter alpine tourism,” said Dimitar Bikov, Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer of SOF Connect – the operator of Sofia Airport.
SOF Connect’s forecasts show the potential for carrying around 55,000 tourists per year on the Sofia-Lyon route. With these flights, Bulgarian skiers have quick access to the famous resorts of Courchevel, Alpe d’Huez or Tignes without using complicated land connections.
The direct service between Sofia and Lyon, which was launched at the end of October, is already attracting both winter sports enthusiasts and tourists seeking cultural and culinary experiences in the Lyon region. Flights to the Alpine city are on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
