Press releases

SAUDI ARABIA IS NOW ACCESSIBLE WITH A DIRECT FLIGHT FROM SOFIA

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air will start flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from April next year. Flights will be twice a week – on Thursdays and Sundays.

It should be recalled that earlier in August, Sofia Airport and Wizz Air announced their joint plans to develop their base here with a seventh aircraft based in Sofia, adding another 500,000 trips to and from the Bulgarian capital annually. Two new routes to Hamburg and Stockholm will also be launched from December and frequencies will be increased on 12 of Wizz Air’s most attractive destinations to and from the Bulgarian capital.

“We continue to increase Sofia’s air connectivity, this time to the Middle East, as part of our overall strategy. We are working on dozens of new routes with many airlines. We believe that air connectivity brings benefits not only to the airport and the airlines, but also to Bulgaria’s economy and society,” Airport CEO JesΓΊs Caballero commented on the new route.
