5 Star Regional Airport Project Officially Launched by 2028
A team from international organisation Skytrax visited Sofia Airport during the week to conduct an initial audit of the airport’s operations. The auditors looked in depth at the entire passenger journey – from transport connectivity to the airport, check-in and baggage handling, security checks, border and customs control, dining and shopping areas, facilities and the organisation of arrival and departure processes, including staff attitudes, cleanliness and sanitary areas, the quality of wireless connectivity and much more. The results will be presented in an official report in the coming weeks, the airport added.
Following the audit, Sofia Airport will plan and implement dozens of improvements – both infrastructure, process and technology related – to improve passenger comfort and efficiency of operations.
The audit aims to impartially assess the airport’s user experience by identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
In June, Sofia Airport announced its mission of becoming a 5-star regional airport by 2028, the first step of which is the completed Skytrax audit. SOF Connect’s strategy for the next 5 years includes 4 key pillars – “Customer Experience”, “Efficiency”, “Environment” and “Economic and Social Contribution”, and the company has a detailed timeline with detailed steps to achieve each goal.
“The 5-star rating is an ambitious but entirely doable goal that we are already delivering on. We have an excellent team, the necessary resources, and a detailed plan to achieve it. I believe there is very good news ahead for passengers at Sofia Airport,” said SOF Connect CEO Jesus Caballero.
