SOF Connect and the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria opened a kids area at the Vasil Levski Sofia Airport. This is the first such area for children at an European airport, built in partnership with the European Commission Representation. The space was created with the youngest passengers and their families in mind, and is part of a targeted effort to improve the passenger experience and accessibility of the airport infrastructure.
Richard Kuehnel – Director in the DG Communications, responsible for the European Commission Representations and communication in the Member States, Yordanka Chobanova – Head of European Commission Representation in Bulgaria and Jesús Caballero – CEO of SOF Connect officially opened the Children’s area.
“We are glad that it is with the European Commission Representation that we are inaugurating this new area, created with our youngest passengers in mind. The Kids Area is another example of how we are transforming the airport into a more comfortable, accessible and friendly place for all travellers. With this initiative, we are one step closer to our goal of transforming Vasil Levski Sofia Airport into a modern, five-star regional hub that meets the highest European service standards.”, said Jesús Caballero during the opening ceremony.
“With the implementation of the kids’area at the airport in Sofia, we are creating a new space not only for children, but also for their parents. A place where they can calmly wait for their flight and at the same time have fun: play, learn interesting facts about European countries or hear a fascinating tale about the history and values of Europe. Through this initiative, we want to convey a message – that travel opens up new opportunities, just as the European Union does for its member states and their citizens. Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen is one of the most illustrative examples of this.” said Richard Kuehnel.
The Kids Area is in the passenger gallery, after passing through security at Terminal 2.
SOF Connect is currently implementing two significant projects with EU funding, with the EU contributing a total of €5,371,125. The projects are the electrification of the airport’s ground operations and the deployment of the first private 5G mobile network in Bulgaria.
