Important information for travelers to Varna and Burgas!
If you are planning a domestic flight from Sofia Airport, it is advisable to be at the airport 2 hours before your departure. From now on, flights will be served from gates located in the inner part of Terminal 2.
This means that you will have the opportunity to take advantage of the shops, restaurants and business lounge located in Terminal 2 before your journey.

SOF CONNECT LAUNCHES THE TENDER FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF TERMINAL 3 AND THE MODERNIZATION OF TERMINAL 2 AT VASIL LEVSKI SOFIA AIRPORT

SOF Connect launched the tender procedure for the design and construction of Terminal 3, curbside, transportation center and modernization of the existing Terminal 2 at Vasil Levski Sofia Airport. The company will invest BGN 450 million in the project, and also foresees additional investments for equipment of BGN 50 million.

“This is the largest public infrastructure development project to be implemented in the country over the next five years. We are confident that companies with proven expertise and a track record of successfully delivered major infrastructure projects will show interest in it, so that in 2031, Bulgaria will have an airport that meets the highest global standards.” said Jesús Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect.

The scope of the tender procedure includes the design and construction of:

  • New Terminal 3 with an area of 60 000 connecting to the existing Terminal 2 building, increasing the annual capacity of passenger process from 7 million passengers to 20 million passengers; this includes:
  • new arrival and departures facilities
  • centralized security checkpoint
  • offices and process facilities for airport users
  • new boarding Pier
  • commercial areas
  • The modernization of the existing Terminal 2 main core building with an area of 72 000 m² includes:
  • Expanding the commercial areas either landside or airside
  • Converting existing passenger processing areas to airport users’ offices, support areas
  • Refurbishment of existing airport systems (fire systems and ICT systems)
  • The necessary intervention needed to the utilities to cope with new capacity
  • Skytrax 5-star regional Airport implementation enhancing passenger experience through digital, accessible, and sensory-driven solutions
  • Expansion of the Curbside and New Transportation Center with an area of 9000 m² including 21 coaches parking slots and access roads
  • Airside and Landside service roads
  • Architectural, structural, civil works, MEP, and ICT systems, SAS (Special Airport Systems), Fire Systems, FLS (Fire Life & Safety), BMS (Building Management System), SCADA, Vertical Transportation, etc.
  • Sustainability and green building certification (BREEAM for Terminal 3)
  • Coordination with airside and landside operations during the executio

The construction works will take place near the fully operational Terminal 2. Phased execution must ensure continuous operations, passenger level of service, safety, and capacity. Existing landside infrastructure such as parking facilities, access roads, and passenger circulation areas that must remain operational throughout the construction period.

SOF Connect invites entities to indicate their interest in implementing the project by submitting a Letter of Interest till October 15, 2025. Once the letters are reviewed and analyzed by the airport operator, the Tender Procedure will be officially launched through publication of a notice at: https://devnew.sofia-airport.orbisds.com/en/business/procurements/
