SOF CONNECT JOINED THE UNITED NATIONS GLOBAL COMPACT

SOF Connect, the operator of Sofia Airport, has officially joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact. With this significant step, the company reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, social responsibility and UN values. Thus, Sofia Airport becomes the first airport in Bulgaria to join the global initiative, as well as the only company from the transport sector part of the Global Compact Network Bulgaria.

The UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, bringing together over 17,000 companies and 4,000 non-profit organizations in over 160 countries and more than 70 local networks. The Bulgarian network is an association of companies, educational institutions and non-governmental organizations, which has been working for 10 years after the official announcement by the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon. The local network provides a platform and environment for the development of companies that have proven their efforts and contribution towards the sustainable growth of Bulgaria.

“Joining the UN Global Compact is an expression of SOF Connect’s commitment to the adoption and implementation of sustainable development goals. We will continue to work diligently to ensure that our operations are in line with the principles of sustainability, good corporate governance and social responsibility,” said Jesus Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect.

“We welcome SOF Connect to the Responsible Business Network in Bulgaria. Sustainable mobility is becoming increasingly important in a globalized world and the commitment of the Sofia Airport operator in this regard has a huge positive impact – on the airport’s rich ecosystem, thousands of passengers and the entire transport sector in the country. We’re sure we’re in for an exciting sustainable flight together!”, Darina Georgieva, Executive Director of the Global Compact Network Bulgaria.

The UN Global Compact is an initiative that calls on companies to adopt ten universal principles in the fields of human rights, labor standards, the environment and the fight against corruption and apply them in their business strategies and in their daily work. Through their commitment to universally accepted values and by minimizing the negative effects of their business activities, companies can contribute to the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
