Global company Dufry will be responsible for the commercial area
Sofia Airport has signed a contract with Dufry for the operation of the commercial areas for a period of eight and a half years. The company was selected following an international tender procedure and will operate a total of thirteen stores.
The transformation of the retail area at Bulgaria’s largest international airport is part of airport operator SOF Connect’s concept to improve the passenger experience. “Travellers through Sofia Airport deserve the best service. We trusted Dufry because they are a global company that will deliver high quality service and change the face of the commercial areas. This change is part of the major transformation of Sofia Airport that we are already implementing,” said Jesus Caballero, CEO of Sofia Airport.
The company will take over the operation of the existing commercial areas totalling 1,433 sqm and create two new shops at Terminal 2. The first store will be 1,800 sqm and passengers will pass directly through it before reaching their flight gate. The other 170 sqm shop is for arriving passengers.
Passengers will be able to choose from world-famous brands, new products and exclusive offers in the refurbished commercial area. A strong emphasis will be placed on the range of Bulgarian products that reflect the flavour of the country and introduce guests to the traditions of Bulgaria.
Commenting on the new contract, Alberto Iglesias, Chief Operating Officer, Mediterranean, Eastern Europe & Middle East said, โDufry is proud to have been awarded this important new concession in Bulgaria. We would like to thank Sofia Airport for the trust they have shown in us. As the leading global travel retailer, we will use our extensive knowledge and expertise to take the airportโs shopping experience to an entirely new level for the over seven million passengers who visit Sofia Airport each year. A key element of the new walk through store will be the integration of digital technologies.โ
