Even though you’re travelling in the European Union around Christmas and New Year, you can save time at border checks if you take your passport abroad. There are automated systems at the airport that require a passport but not an identity card. The machines save considerable time, especially at peak lunchtimes on weekends when large numbers of passengers are expected by the end of the year. There is a special area at Terminal 2 leading to the machines and security staff assist with the use of the digital border check.
“We are working together with our colleagues from the Border Police to ease the busy schedule around the holidays because the convenience of passengers is important to us. Passport can save up to 30% of border control time, use it,” said Pavlin Kodzhahristov, the airport’s security director.
