If you are planning a domestic flight from Sofia Airport, it is advisable to be at the airport 2 hours before your departure. From now on, flights will be served from gates located in the inner part of Terminal 2.

SOFIA AIRPORT TO SERVE OVER 6 MILLION PASSENGERS IN 2022

1 million fewer passengers compared to 2019

 

Sofia Airport served 6,003,653 passengers in 2022, which is significantly more than last year, but over 1 million fewer passengers than in 2019.

International scheduled passengers in 2022 were 5,461,290, down 17% on 2019. 232,260 flew to our seaside cities, down 18%. Charter passengers for the period grew by over 15% and totalled 250,521. The top destinations for the past year were London with over 400,000 passengers, Frankfurt with over 140,000 passengers and Vienna with approximately the same number of passengers.

Aircraft movements in 2022 are down 12% compared to pre-Covid or 53,722 in total. There was also a drop of over 14% in cargo and mail handled, which totalled 20,529 tonnes last year.

“Europe expects passenger traffic to recover to pre-pandemic levels only in 2025. We believe we can do better in Sofia, with 1 million new seats already guaranteed for 2023 thanks to active work with airlines. We also have an important year ahead for redevelopments and improvements for a better passenger experience,” said Airport CEO Jesus Caballero.
