Sofia Airport is currently hosting the captivating photo exhibition titled “Spain, Closer.” The exhibition was inaugurated by Jesús Caballero, the CEO of Sofia Airport, and the Ambassador of Spain to Bulgaria, H. E. Alejandro Polanco. Among the distinguished guests attending the event were the Minister of Tourism, Zaritza Dinkova, and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Anna Mihneva-Natova.
The exhibition showcases 21 iconic photos, depicting some of Spain’s most sought-after landscapes and locations, along with some lesser-known regions. Prominent among the displayed photographs are the famous windmills of Castilla-La Mancha from Cervantes’ novel, the lunar landscapes of the Canary Islands, the modern architectural marvels of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the City of Arts and Science in Valencia, as well as the breathtaking beaches of Ibiza and others.
Jesús Caballero, speaking at the official opening of the exhibition, described Spain as a country with deep-rooted diversity, inspiring visitors with the magic of its cities, traditions, and history. He also mentioned that the featured cities and places could be potential destinations for travelers passing through Sofia Airport, as the airport offers regular year-round flights to Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Alicante. Impressively, in the first six months of 2023 alone, 253,371 passengers flew to Spain, solidifying the country’s position as the fourth top destination from Sofia Airport.
The Spanish Ambassador highlighted the encouraging progress in the passenger flow between Spain and Bulgaria, expressing hope for further growth in both passenger numbers and direct flights. He emphasized the potential inherent in the friendship between Spaniards and Bulgarians, particularly due to the excellent cooperation between Bulgaria Air and Iberia. Referring to the exhibition, he underscored that it represents a special collaboration with Sofia Airport, which is expected to become a hub in the Balkans with its upcoming expansions. Moreover, the airport is set to host another exhibition in the autumn, showcasing the remarkable relationship between Spain and Bulgaria as neighbors in Antarctica.
The title “Spain, Closer” of the exhibition refers to the motto of the Spanish Presidency for the next six months, “Europe, Closer.” All travelers passing through Terminal 2 can enjoy the exhibition until the end of the summer, after passport control. It offers a splendid glimpse into the beauty and allure of Spain, enticing visitors to explore this diverse and magical country.
