Wizz Air, Bulgaria’s largest airline by market share, today announced the long-awaited start of sales for its newest exotic routes from Sofia to Egypt. Starting in the summer of 2026, Bulgarian passengers will be able to fly directly to the sunny shores of the Red Sea. Flights to Sharm el-Sheikh will start on July 5, 2026, and will operate twice a week during the summer of 2026 (on Thursdays and Sundays) and three times a week during the upcoming winter season (on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays), while flights to Hurghada will operate from October 25, 2026, twice a week (on Tuesdays and Saturdays).
In addition, Wizz Air continues to strengthen connectivity in the Southeast Europe region with the announcement of another new route from Sofia to Tirana. Flights to the Albanian capital will start on July 4, 2026, and will operate three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—during the busy summer season. Tickets to Tirana are already on sale at prices starting from €24.991, and to destinations in Egypt at prices starting from €45.99, and can be purchased at wizzair.com and on the airline’s mobile app.
To mark Bulgaria’s national day, Wizz Air is announcing a special promotion to make spring travel even more affordable for Bulgarian passengers. Today only, the airline is offering flights to and from Bulgaria at prices starting from €19.99. The promotion is valid for travel between March 4 and May 30, 2026, and covers a wide selection of routes in the airline’s network from Bulgaria.
Sharm el-Sheikh, one of Egypt’s major resorts on the Red Sea coast, located at the tip of the Sinai Peninsula, combines elegance and adventure. Known as Egypt’s diving paradise, the resort attracts visitors with its underwater world in Ras Mohammed National Park. In addition to water sports, the city offers a dynamic nightlife, fine dining, and unique views of the Sinai Mountains.
Hurghada is a true paradise for all lovers of the sea and diving. Located on the Red Sea coast, the city offers miles of sandy beaches, crystal clear water, and some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. The destination is perfect for both family vacations and desert safari enthusiasts.
Tirana is one of the most dynamic and rapidly developing urban tourism destinations in the Balkans. The city is known for its colorful architecture, café culture, and charming mix of Ottoman heritage, Italian influence, and communist past. From the bustling Skanderbeg Square to the panoramic views of the Dajti Mountain and the Adriatic coast, which is only a short drive away, Tirana is the perfect choice for travelers seeking culture, excellent cuisine, and Mediterranean charm.
“We are excited to add Egypt to our ever-growing network from Sofia, making us the only low-cost airline to serve these routes directly from Bulgaria. Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh are among Egypt’s iconic destinations, combining history, nature, and relaxation. At the same time, the launch of our new Sofia-Tirana route further strengthens regional connections in Southeast Europe. We are delighted that with the launch of these new routes, we are offering Bulgarian passengers even more unique, exciting, and affordable travel opportunities, and we believe that these flights will become a favorite choice for vacations. Today, on this special holiday for Bulgarians, we want to give you another reason to smile with our special promotional prices. Let’s WIZZ, Bulgaria!” commented Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
“We are very pleased to welcome the launch of the first direct flights by Wizz Air from Sofia’s airport to the Egyptian resorts of Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, as well as to the Albanian capital Tirana. These new connections expand our international network, offer our passengers more choices for sun-and-sea leisure travel, and further strengthen Sofia’s role as a gateway to popular holiday destinations. We believe these services will be a great addition for both Bulgarian travelers and visitors to our capital.”, said Jesus Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect.
The addition of the new routes is a result of Wizz Air’s large-scale expansion in the capital, announced earlier this year. The airline increased its capacity in Sofia by adding an eighth aircraft to its base, which allowed not only the launch of new routes to Egypt and Albania, but also the launch of three more new routes – to Budapest, Palermo, and Rhodes, and an increase in frequencies on ten existing routes. With the addition of the new aircraft in Sofia, Wizz Air now operates a total of 10 modern Airbus A321neo aircraft, distributed across two bases in Bulgaria – in Sofia and Varna, confirming its leading position in the country with the largest market share – 33%.
Wizz Air has been operating in Sofia since 2005 and continues to expand its operations in the Bulgarian capital today. The airline now serves 41 routes to 19 countries from Sofia, connecting Bulgarian passengers with destinations in Europe and beyond. This year, Wizz Air is offering over 3.4 million seats from Sofia and nearly 5 million seats from Bulgaria, serving four airports and a total of 68 routes to 20 countries.
