Important information for travelers to Varna and Burgas!
If you are planning a domestic flight from Sofia Airport, it is advisable to be at the airport 2 hours before your departure. From now on, flights will be served from gates located in the inner part of Terminal 2.
This means that you will have the opportunity to take advantage of the shops, restaurants and business lounge located in Terminal 2 before your journey.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower

Vasil Levski Sofia Airport is a member of the global Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network. We understand that not all disabilities are visible and that travelling can be challenging for people who need additional support, but whose condition is not obvious to those around them. Our aim is to provide calm, safety and understanding for every passenger passing through our terminals.

What is the programme?

Many people live with disabilities that are not noticeable at first sight. These may be physical,

mental health, cognitive, respiratory, sensory, neurological or neurodevelopmental, and can include, but are not limited to, conditions such as:

  • Autism, dyslexia and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder);

  • Dementia;

  • Chronic pain or fatigue;

  • Anxiety disorders and panic attacks;

  • Sensory impairments include visual, speech or hearing difficulties;

  • Chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy.

For these passengers, airport noise, crowds and procedures can be particularly stressful. The Sunflower program gives them the opportunity to discreetly show that they may need more time, assistance or simply a little more patience from our colleagues.

The symbol: the Sunflower lanyard

Wearing a Sunflower lanyard is entirely voluntary. This symbol is an internationally recognised sign for a non-visible disability.

Why a sunflower? The sunflower symbolises positivity, growth and strength. It is bright and easy to spot from a distance, allowing our staff to discreetly identify passengers who may need support, without requiring them to explain their condition to everyone they interact with.

How we help at Vasil Levski – Sofia Airport

Our colleagues are trained to recognise the Sunflower symbol. When they see a passenger wearing a Sunflower lanyard, they are ready to:

  • Give you more time to prepare your documents or pass through security checks;

  • Provide clearer and calmer instructions;

  • Show greater understanding and patience in stressful situations;

  • Assist you throughout your time at the airport, whenever this is possible within operational procedures.

Important: Wearing a Sunflower lanyard does not automatically grant access to Fast Track or priority queues, but it does signal to our teams that they should be attentive to your individual needs.

How to get your Sunflower lanyard

If you or someone you are travelling with has a non-visible disability and you are planning a journey through Vasil Levski – Sofia Airport, you can receive a Sunflower lanyard free of charge on site.
