Environment

Environment

Every human activity stems from the needs of society. It has its economical benefits but it also has an impact on the environment. In that respect no difference exists between civil aviation and any other human activity – it originated as a response to people’s need to travel faster and more comfortable, which respectively led to various changes in the environment.

Over the course of time it became obvious that the optimum balance needed to be found between the economical benefits of the fast-growing industry and the way it influenced the living conditions of people. That balance lies in the foundation of the strategy for sustainable development of aviation business.

SOF Connect AD strives to perform its obligations in such a way as to reduce the impact of aviation activities on the environment and the people working and living within Sofia Airport region.

We monitor, control and evaluate the different aspects of our activities and their impact on the environment. Thus we can find a way to diminish their impact on the living conditions in the vicinity of the airport.

All of the above gave start to SOF Connect AD’s long-term policy meeting the principles of sustainable development – adopting and applying world’s best practices in aviation business, striving to affirm our company as a good neighbour for the citizens living and working in the region.

Climate Protection

SOF Connect AD, in its role as an airport operator, strives to manage the carbon emissions from its activities so as to improve company’s overall impact on the environment, society and the economy, and seeks to reduce emissions while developing Sofia Airport.
We continue our participation in the program Airport Carbon Accreditation Program of ACI EUROPE, which Sofia Airport joined in 2016. It is an expression of the airports responsibility to combat climate change and their proactive position in reducing the adverse effects of carbon emissions on the climate.
The program has several levels and each subsequent level requires more serious commitments to reduce the carbon footprint. For the successful management of our emissions and their reduction we have adopted a company Energy and Carbon Management Policy, which you can find HERE

Sofia Airport has joined Europe’s leading airports by achieving Level 4 “Transformation” accreditation under the Airport Carbon Management and Reduction Programme. This milestone makes it the first airport in Bulgaria to receive such recognition, alongside major hubs like Istanbul, Zurich, and Paris.

This accreditation reflects SOF Connect’s dedication to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint. Key achievements include implementing innovative decarbonization measures, conducting comprehensive flight emissions calculations, and developing a detailed Carbon Management Plan in collaboration with Munich Airport International.Sofia Airport is committed to reducing its own emissions while actively engaging stakeholders to achieve shared climate goals.
